Chaparral Veterinary Medical Center is a full service medical and surgical center with 2 staff equine surgeons whom have completed rigorous residency programs at universities and are board certified by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons. Together, Drs. Andrea and McClellan work passionately to provide all of your horse's surgical and medical needs. Our surgeons have extensive experience with all types of elective and emergency orthopedic and soft tissue procedures and with emergency disorders of the abdomen (colic surgery), upper airway, reproductive and musculoskeletal systems. CVMC surgeons provide expertise in arthroscopic procedures, annular limb corrective surgery, simple and complex fracture fixation, arthrodesis techniques, equine upper respiratory surgery as well as abdominal and reproductive procedures. We also provide current techniques in regenerative medicine (PRP, stem cells, IRAP, and bone marrow concentrate) along with a vast experience with sports medicine and lameness issues.
In House Lab Services
Our state of the art surgical facility includes two large operating rooms with one room dedicated solely to orthopedic procedures and the other for general surgical procedures. Horses are safely placed under general anesthesia in a padded induction stall and then recovered in separate padded recovery stall. Each patient is monitored closely by the doctors and highly trained staff throughout the entire procedure from induction of anesthesia to their assisted recovery. We also have the option of sling assisted recovery for cases that warrant extra help standing in surgery.
The success of the Chaparral's surgery services are not based on individual effort. The surgeons are supported by an experienced group of technicians, administrative assistants and other support staff dedicated to give each horse the best care and each client the best service possible.
